Amanda started North Star Embroidery as both a creative outlet and a way to bring joy to the world. With a family background rich in textile arts—including quilting, sewing, crocheting, knitting, and embroidery—Amanda's passion for these crafts began early. She learned to sew and crochet at six, quilt at eight, and embroider at fourteen on old industrial Brother and Tajima machines. Her teenage years working with her mother at a local screen printing shop fueled her lifelong ambition to create beautiful things with thread and patience.
The business name, North Star Embroidery, honors the family’s tradition of using mariner's compasses and stars in their crafts, particularly quilting. Though Amanda doesn't quilt, she wanted to continue this legacy through her embroidered goods.
After losing her job in 2023, Amanda took the opportunity to follow her dream of starting an embroidery business. Within a year, she moved from planning and dreaming to writing a business plan, securing funding, and signing a lease for their commercial office space. She purchased a Melco EMT16 Plus embroidery machine in January 2024 and spent two months mastering it and honing her skills. By February 2024, North Star Embroidery was ready to serve the public with a variety of beautifully crafted items.
